Today's Quote

“As parents, we should remember that our lives may be the book from the family library which the children most treasure. Are our examples worthy of emulation? Do we live in such a way that a son or a daughter may say, ‘I want to follow my dad,’ or ‘I want to be like my mother’? Unlike the book on the library shelf, the covers of which shield its contents, our lives cannot be closed. Parents, we truly are an open book in the library of learning of our homes.” Thomas S Monson

"Family" seems to be an objective term now days

David is in Salt Lake. I don't know if it matters to anyone there except Chris. I mean, his Parents will see him because he's staying there. But no one else is going to stop by to say "Hello." I know that we see people there every few months. That's the point. People who make a big deal about how Family is more important than anything only care to see each other 3 or 4 times a year.

Then there's MY Family. My Mom is different. We see each other every chance we get... but we also talk several times a week.

We came to Salt Lake a couple of weeks ago and made a huge effort to make it to a Baby Blessing that we were not even invited to originally, and I don't think it mattered to my Aunt's Family.... who I used to be pretty close to.

My Uncle's Family, who I am not even technically related to.... and even my cousin's Wife's Family seemed to care more than my own relatives did.

I know I always whine about this topic. I just grew up with a COMPLETELY different idea of what Family was. And this isn't it.

If you can't handle my "Shit" once in a while, maybe we shouldn't be Friends

My "Best" Friend who is NOT MORMON and who I have been Friends with since I was TEN. Is ranting and raving because I "liked" something that had the word "Shit" and "Ass" in it, and it showed up on her "Home" feed, and offended her.

SORRY, but

Shit Happens! And it's normally accompanied by some Ass!

Letter to Ginger

I'm sad that we're not the kind of Friends we've been for the past 3 years.

You're one of the ones worth having.

I don't know who's fault it is. It might be mine, it might be yours. It might simply be a case of miscommunication.

But you're one of the Friends who was with me through the marriage I had BEFORE. Then the Divorce. Through getting remarried. Through being pregnant again. And it means something to me.

You KNOW all my faults. You KNOW all the stuff that makes me human. And that's what Friendship is all about... Accepting the good AND bad about someone. That's the kind of Friendship we had.

I miss you. I miss you're Southern Diva ways. You are so good and kind hearted, and I'm sad.

I tried to tell you this once before: you've become like Family.

Special occasions are not the same without you.

Tell me what I can do. Tell me how to be your Friend again.

Thank you for all you've done for us as a Family. Your house is the only one of any of my Friends' houses where we felt so comfortable.... even David.

I'm not shallow. I promise. I just don't know what to do with the way things have been, and I'm no good at keeping my foot out of my mouth.

But NOT ONE of your acts of kindness has ever gone unnoticed. And I am sorry if you felt taken for granted.

Forgive me. Please.

Sometimes the best way to get rid of crazy is to understand it

Obviously this does not apply to SOME people ;-) But it does to me. My crazy is a defense. It's my "I did it the way I was "expected to" and hated the results. So, now I do it MY way and even if I don't get any better of results, at least I don't feel like I gave up myself for nothing." defense. I figure that if I can't win, I might as well do it the way that leaves me feeling like I didn't just get screwed out of EVERYTHING!

I didn't used to be that way. But it's like Laura once said I am OCD, but not clinically. I can CHOOSE to be or not. And if I'm used to getting screwed by a person or situation, I am extra OCD around them.

David has days where he really works with my crazy, and I try to make sure he's rewarded. And when people WORK with my crazy rather than try to change me, I relax and don't need the crazy anymore.
